American Hero’s Legacy Being Attacked

23 Jan

America’s deadliest sniper, Chris Kyle, was put on blast this past week from Celebrity, Seth Rogan and Director Michael Moore, for his actions in the War against Iraq. The film has overpassed any January opening to date. With this documentary like film following the four tours that Chris Kyle completed in Iraq; it shows how Navy Seals who are assigned to being snipers cope with their assignments. Rogan and Moore did not agree with Kyle’s job choice. Moore stating, “Snipers aren’t heroes…” He also says that he was “taught snipers were cowards.” Many supporters of Kyle came to his defense against Moore’s statements. One being, former speaker of the house, Newt Gingrich, saying that the “Fahrenheit 9/11’ director should spend a few weeks with ISIS and Boko Haram in order to appreciate this film.” He also added “I am proud of our defenders.”

Seth Rogan also shared his opinion on the film, comparing Kyle’s job in the film to a scene from the film ‘Inglorious bastards’ that promoted Nazi propaganda. Many people may have issues with this film, but many Americans are standing strong and are proud of what Christ Kyle did in the War against Iraq. Iraq veteran, Paul Riechhoff, comments on the film stating, “most of America is tired of hearing about Iraq. But now, they’re at least open to being entertained by it.” He adds “films like ‘American Sniper’ may bring civilians closer to us than anything else.” Having this film debut allows Americans to see what the men and women go through to protect our country. It allows Americans to follow along side of one of the deadliest men alive and see how he copes with doing his job.

We, as Americans may not agree with the war, but we, as Americans need to respect and back up our troops. This country is not the strongest country because we loved everyone. This country is the strong country in the world because we fought for what we believe is right. Now we as a country may not all agree on what is “right”, but we as a country need to back up our troops and our country in times of war. Bashing what our troops are doing to try and keep our homeland safe, along with trying to keep another country safe is not the way to support their difficult duties. Support what our troops do, no matter what, plain and simple.
