Reducing Flouride in the Water Supply

11 Feb

66 years ago, Grand Rapids, Michigan added flouride to their city water supply, making them the first city to ever do so. Cities all over the United States followed Grand Rapids and introduced flouride to their water. The introduction of the flouride throughout the years has dramatically decreased the amount of cavities in children and adults.
Today, the United States Department of Health of Human Services is requiring that cities reduce the amount of flouride added to their water by forty percent. There are people who fear that too much flouride can be harmful. Studies show that to much flouride can cause weak bones and even possibly lower IQ’s. Although the government is requiring the reduction of flouride in the water supply, people generally get enough flouride from toothpaste and mouthwash.
