Groupon Pulls Ads

11 Feb

A popular website Groupon aired commercials during the super bowl and continued to air them after the super bowl, which offended several people. The founder of the company Andrew Mason decided to pull these commercials. He stated that it was not the company’s intention to start “controversy”. People found these commercials offense because they involved charity causes. One example is the commercial which talks about the human rights issue in Tibet but then advertises a great deal at a Tibetan restaurant. The other two commercials involved a joke about saving the whales and forest preservation. Although, Mason thought the joke was poking fun at the company, some people thought otherwise. In an effort to show the company’s support for these causes Mason has agreed to match donations up to a $100,000 for each cause made by its customers.
